Height, branching, and amount of foliage may vary per specimen and season. Flowering or fruit at delivery is not guaranteed. Growth and fruit A mature tree can reach a height of approximately 3 to 5 meters. The final size depends on the rootstock, soil, and pruning. Blossom appears early in spring. The apricots typically ripen in July or August, depending on the location and the season. Allow them to develop color on the tree and pick them when they yield slightly and detach easily. Pollination and Use ‘Luizet’ is self-fertile, meaning even a single tree can bear fruit. Sufficient warmth and favorable weather during flowering aid fruit set. Ripe apricots taste delicious fresh and are suitable for jam, compote, and baking. Process soft fruit soon after picking. The yield varies from year to year, and a young tree must first establish a good root system. Location and Planting Plant in full sun in a warm, sheltered spot. A sunny wall can provide additional warmth. Use nutritious, well-draining soil and avoid areas where water pools. Dig a spacious planting hole, maintain the same depth as in the nursery pot, and water generously after planting. Support a young tree with a tree stake where necessary. Water and nutrition Water young trees and potted specimens regularly, especially during dry periods and fruit growth. Keep the soil evenly moist without it becoming waterlogged. In spring, apply compost or suitable fruit tree fertilizer according to the packaging. In the event of very abundant fruit set, thinning helps prevent overloading of the branches. Pruning and winter care Prune sparingly during dry weather in spring or summer, preferably after the harvest. Remove damaged and crossing branches and keep the crown airy. Avoid winter pruning to limit the risk of pruning wounds becoming infected. The tree is hardy and deciduous, but the early flowers are sensitive to night frost. Where possible, temporarily protect the blossoms with fleece and allow pollinators access during the day.
