Description

The VL53L0X is a time-of-flight ranging system integrated into a compact module. This board serves as a carrier for the VL53L0X, and we recommend reviewing the datasheet before use. The VL53L0X uses STMicroelectronics' FlightSense technology to measure the time it takes for emitted pulses of infrared light to reach the nearest object and reflect back to the detector, enabling precise distance measurements. It functions as a miniature, self-contained lidar system. Ranging data is accessible through the sensor's IC interface, which is also used for configuration. The sensor includes two additional pins: a shutdown input and an interrupt output. The VL53L0X is a capable IC, but its small, leadless LGA package can be challenging for students and hobbyists to handle. It operates at a recommended voltage of 2.8 V, which may complicate interfacing with microcontrollers running at 3.3 V or 5 V. This breakout board simplifies integration by addressing these challenges while maintaining a minimal footprint. Key pin functions: - Regulated 2.8 V output: Provides up to nearly 150 mA to power external components. This pin can also be used as a 2.8 V input if the internal regulator is bypassed (with VIN disconnected). - VIN: Main power supply connection, 2.6 V to 5.5 V. The SCL and SDA level shifters pull the IC lines high to this voltage. - GND: Ground (0 V) connection. The IC control source must share a common ground with the board. - SDA: Level-shifted IC data line; HIGH level is VIN, LOW is 0 V. - SCL: Level-shifted IC clock line; HIGH level is VIN, LOW is 0 V. - XSHUT: Active-low shutdown input. The board pulls this pin high by default to enable the sensor. Driving it low places the sensor in hardware standby. This input is not level-shifted.
