40cm Pressure-Distributing Bed Cushion

This 40 cm round cushion is made entirely from high-resilience sponge engineered for progressive compression—soft on initial contact but firming predictably under load to prevent deep tissue compression. Its uniform thickness (7.5 cm) and smooth perimeter ensure seamless integration with standard chairs, wheelchairs, and hospital beds. It functions by elevating the pelvis slightly and creating a central void beneath the coccyx, redirecting weight laterally across the ischial rami. This mechanical redistribution lowers peak pressure points by up to 35% compared to flat seating surfaces—as observed in clinical pressure mapping studies using similar geometries. Suited for post-operative patients (particularly following spinal fusion, hip replacement or caesarean delivery), individuals managing chronic coccydynia or lumbar radiculopathy, expectant mothers in third-trimester discomfort, and elderly users requiring daily pressure mitigation without reliance on complex assistive devices.
