Description
Abelia Grandiflora.
ABELIA
\ngrandiflora
\nA medium-sized rounded shrub with arching branches and small, glossy, dark green, oval-shaped leaves.
\nUsually semi-evergreen, meaning it will lose some leaves in winter but in colder regions or in exposed gardens it may lose all of them.
\nFrom June the branches are awash with small, bell or trumpet shaped white flowers with a pink tinge.
\nSlightly fragrant, the flowers are long lasting and this floral display often continues well into autumn
\nExcellent when used to add a little extra structure to a mixed shrub or herbaceous border and also very effective planted against a wall where its late flowering can be enjoyed.
\nGreat choice for a cottage style garden.
\nAbelia grandiflora is unfussy when it comes to soil type but likes it moist and well-drained.
\nFull sun or partial shade is fine but does need a sheltered position as cold winter winds may scorch the leaves.
\nRegularly dead-heading will prolong the flowering season and the plant should be lightly pruned after flowering to help keep in neat.
\nAny dead or damaged branches should be removed in spring.
\nRoyal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
