Description
Hypericum Hidcote. Rose Of Sharon.
HYPERICUM Hidcote
\nOften called St. John’s Wort or Rose of Sharon.
\nBushy, dense, semi-evergreen shrub with mid-green leaves, will only lose its leaves in very cold winters.
\nHidcote produces masses of large, waxy, slightly fragrant, rose like, showy, saucer-shaped, golden yellow flowers with prominent darker yellow stamens.
\nThese blooms are produced on reddish, twiggy stems and are held above the dark green, lance-shaped leaves.\nOften up to 2 ins. wide Hidcote flowers appear continually from July to October.
\nFlowers best in full sun, but will tolerate partial shade.
\nWe recommend providing some protection from winter frosts and cold winds as Hypericum can die to the ground in a very cold winter.
\nIf it does die to the ground in winter don't panic, new shoots will quickly develop from the base in spring.
\nCan be grown as part of a shrub or mixed border, as a ground cover shrub when planted in groups and Hidcote is even versitile enough to be used as an informal hedge.
\n Keep it in shape by trimming immediately after flowering and feed with a good general fertilizer annually.
\nHypericum Hidcote is indeed a truly charming plant.
\nRoyal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
\nAll pictures used are of mature plants in bloom, they are for illustration purposes only and may not reflect the plant at all times of the year.
\nOur Hypericum plants are supplied ex. 9cm pots, they can be planted out immediately but better results may be obtained if they are grown on for a short time in a slightly larger container before transplanting to their final growing positions.

\nWe found a short by Overdevest Nurseries to be very helpful with this cultivar.
\nPlease remember plant maintenance is absolutely essential and means we need to prune back some items at certain times of the year to help maintain shape and encourage new growth.
\nWe ask all our buyers to remember Hypericum are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons. Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.
\nWe want you to be happy with your Hypericum and all our plants are checked and inspected visually before packing. . Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll.
