KNIPHOFIA Royal Castle
\nOver the years Kniphofia has gathered a number of common names, tritoma, torch lily, poker plant but is perhaps best known as Red Hot Poker.
\nA clump forming evergreen perennial native to the coastal marshes of South Africa.
\nThe broad, sword-shaped, deep green leaves of Royal Castle are topped by dense spikes of elongated flowers.
\nThe blooms, carried on strong, stout stems open fiery red and fade to yellow as they mature.
\nLong lasting, the flowers of Royal Castle usually begin in June and last until late August sometimes even longer.
\nGrowing 1.5–1.8m tall this impressive landscape plant provides a brilliant patch of colour in autumn when many other flowering shrubs and plants are past their peak and beginning to fade.
\nThis is a magnificent strain of Red-Hot Poker very suitable for the back of borders and cottage gardens.
\nExcellent when used in gravel gardens.
\nBees find Royal Castle particularly attractive as do many other beneficial insects.
\nAlthough at its best in a rich, fertile, moist but well drained soil it is still adaptable enough to grow in a large container.
\nFully hardy Kniphofia will thrive in full sun or partial shade.
\nLarge or overcrowded plants can be lifted and divided in spring but Kniphofia dislikes disturbance so this should only be done when absolutely necessary.
\nIllustrations used are of mature plants in bloom and may not necessarily reflect the plant at all times of the year.

\nPlease remember, plant maintenance within our nursery is absolutely essential and means we need to prune back some items at certain times of the year to help maintain shape and encourage new growth.
\nWe ask all our buyers to remember Red Hot Poker are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons. Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.\n\n We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our items are checked and inspected visually before packing. at . . Due to the nature of the products we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll.
