Origins of MacaThe Maca we know is part of the Maca root from the Lepidium meyenii plant, originating from the Andes mountains in South America. The name 'Maca' is thought to originate from two Chibcha words; ma meaning 'height' and ca meaning 'good food that strengthens'. Traditionally, Maca was supposedly given to the Inca warriors in South America before heading into battle as the root provided the warriors with beneficial strength and endurance. Maca is deemed a 'superfood' due to its traditional properties. Many people in the Western world seek the same therapeutic properties that Maca gave the Inca warriors. Besides these qualities, Maca is a nutritious food that is high in protein, fibre, Vitamin C, Copper and Iron.Benefits of MacaMaca was once believed to act as an aphrodisiac, however, nowadays, some evidence suggests that Maca contributes to the balance of reproductive hormones. The plant is believed to contribute to energy levels, stamina and athletic performance, in addition to cognitive performance and contributing to bone strength.Our Maca tabletsOxford Vitality provides three strengths of Maca tablets; 1,250mg, 2,500mg and 4,000mg. We also offer four quantities to choose from to suit your purchasing requirements. Our tablet sizes vary from a very manageable 10mm for the 1250mg tablet, 18mm for the 2,500mg to the larger 22mm torpedo-style, depending on the Maca strength. We advise that if you have trouble swallowing, please purchase our lowest strength Maca tablets. Please note - we recommend that both the 500 and 1,000 tablet options are more suitable for use by more than one person. This is to ensure that you are receiving full use of the product before its expiry date. For one person's use, we recommend the 120 or 240 tablet options.
