Pendant 164 Irminsul - Silver

Carefully crafted jewelry pendant "Irminsul" made of 925 sterling silver. The pendant is partially blackened on the front, so that the artistic design comes into its own. The Irmin Column is surrounded by a runic ring. Dimensions: approx. 24 mm Diameter Inner dimensions of the eyelet: approx. 4 mm high x approx. 3.2 mm wide Weight: approx. 3.5 g The pendant comes with a black cotton ribbon. Meaning of the symbols: In the early Middle Ages, Irminsul was the highest sanctuary of the pagan Saxons. The name means something like "big pillar". Researchers suspect that this column was a vertically erected tree trunk that was supposed to carry the entire universe. More details are not known, because Charlemagne destroyed the sanctuary in 772. Nevertheless, Irminsul is often interpreted as a world tree and thus associated with the tree of life Yggdrasil. The runes represent the 24 signs of the so-called elder Futhark. This runic alphabet was used by the Germanic tribes until the 8th century.
