Robust 6RPM Self Locking DC Motor

Engineered for longevity in intermittent-duty automation, this DC12V worm gear motor uses a rigid aluminium enclosure and hardened brass worm wheel to withstand repeated engagement cycles. Its rated no-load speed is precisely 6 RPM — deliberately selected to balance torque delivery and control fidelity for domestic actuation tasks. The output shaft extends perpendicularly from the motor body, allowing installation in narrow cavities where axial depth is constrained — such as behind skirting boards, inside door stiles, or within compact window operator housings. The self-locking characteristic is intrinsic to the worm gear ratio and material pairing, meaning the shaft stays fixed without power — a passive safety feature validated through mechanical design, not electronic sensing. Reversal is achieved purely by DC polarity inversion, making it compatible with basic toggle switches, relays, or timer modules already present in many UK homes. Proven in applications including fire-ventilation window openers, accessible door drives, and light-duty lifting winches where reliability, simplicity, and spatial efficiency define success.
