Description
Sailors have been using storm glasses to predict the weather for centuries. In the 19th century, a great help on Charles Darwin's expeditions in South America. HMS Beagle's Deputy Admiral Robert FitzRoy, amateur meteorologist and mint of the word "forecast", carefully documented the crystals of the storm glass and the weather that followed. This became instructions on how to read the predictions of storm glass, some of which read: A cloudy storm glass with small crystals indicates thunderstorms. When the crystals are visible, it means that moisture and fog can be expected. A clear glass means that clear weather is also coming
