SWEETCORN Golden Bantam \nSweetcorn is a type of maize which has been bred for its high sugar and low starch content. \nOnce the cob has been picked the sugar in the kernels is steadily converted into starch which is why the flavour of home-grown sweetcorn cooked within an hour or so of picking is so much better than the taste of shop bought corn. \nA heritage variety Golden Bantam was introduced in 1902 and produces sweet and tender cobs with kernels that are slightly larger than the more modern varieties \nThe 6 to 8inch cobs are borne on stems about 5 feet tall and each stem carries 2 cobs or ears of corn. \nThere is still a widespread view that sweetcorn cannot be grown outside the southern counties of England but this is not true. \nGolden Bantam will happily grow in cooler conditions and is both vigorous and early. \nIn April raise seedlings indoors in pots and set them out in a sheltered sunny spot once all danger of frost has passed. \nWith this method it would be a poor summer indeed for sweetcorn to disappoint even as far north as Yorkshire. \nA popular and reliable variety Golden Bantam is easy to grow even on poor soils. \n Detailed growing instructions are on the back of each packet \nPacket contains: 25 seeds approx. \nIMMEDIATE \n \nDesign and colouring of packets may occasionally vary. \nWe want you to be happy with your purchase and all our Sweetcorn seed is checked and inspected visually before packing. .
