The VL6180X three-in-one optoelectronic module integrates an IR VCSEL (vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser), a proximity sensor, and an ambient light sensor (ALS). The VL6180X implements a proximity sensor based on the time-of-flight (ToF) principle. It features a SPAD detector array that measures the round-trip time of a single photon from the module to the target and back. Distance is calculated using both time and signal amplitude, enabling accurate distance measurement independent of target reflectivity. This capability also supports basic one-dimensional gesture detection. The ambient light sensor delivers high sensitivity and accuracy under ultra-low-light conditions, with a wide dynamic sensing range and lux-corrected output. All optical components for proximity and ambient light sensing are integrated into a single compact optical module. The embedded design eliminates the need for mechanical spacers or external lenses.
