Wind-Powered Strandbeest DIY Kit

This educational STEM model kit measures approximately 20 cm in length, 13 cm in width, with a body height of 11 cm and total height (including propeller) of 17 cm. It is constructed from durable hard plastic and wood for reliable assembly and outdoor play. The model replicates Theo Jansen’s iconic kinetic sculpture — the Animaris Ordis Parvus — and operates entirely on wind power: motion is generated by airflow turning the propeller, or manually by hand-spinning or gentle blowing. Its mechanical design enables autonomous behaviour — it turns away when encountering obstacles like water, and stops moving in strong winds to prevent damage. Ideal for hands-on learning, creative building, and exploring principles of biomimicry, energy conversion, and mechanical engineering.
